The work done on government committees is an important aspect of our duties as Members of Parliament. Committees examine, in small groups, selected matters in greater depth than is possible in the House of Commons. They report conclusions of those examinations, and recommendations, to the House. Committees undertake studies on departmental spending, legislation and issues related to their mandate. For my part I serve as chair of the Special Committee on the Canada–People’s Republic of China Relationship (CACN) and as a member of the Standing Committee on Fisheries and Oceans (FOPO).
The Special Committee on the Canada–People’s Republic of China Relationship was created to conduct hearings to examine and review all aspects of the Canada-People's Republic of China relationship, including but not limited to diplomatic, consular, legal, security and economic relations.

The Standing Committee on Fisheries and Oceans studies and reports on matters related to the federal role in the management of Canada's fisheries and the safeguarding of its waters.
