Online consultations for the Safe Long Term Care Act
July 24, 2023

The Government of Canada has announced the launch of a public online consultation to support the development of a Safe Long Term Care Act.

The development of the Safe LTC Act builds on our government’s commitment to support seniors and persons with disabilities by helping advance the quality and safety of LTC services across the country.

The 60-day online consultation will invite Canadians to share their perspectives and expertise on how to better support the quality and safety of LTC, factoring in principles such as choice, person-centred care, and respect for LTC residents while also enabling a healthy and competent LTC workforce. Feedback will help inform the drafting of the legislation.

To recognize the jurisdictional responsibilities over the delivery of long-term care, the Government of Canada will also be consulting with provincial and territorial governments on the Safe LTC Act and how their delivery of LTC services could be supported.

The online consultation period will run from July 21, 2023, to September 21, 2023.
