Eid al-Fitr begins with the sighting of the new moon and this year’s celebration is expected to start on the evening of April 21st.
Eid al-Fitr means "Festival of Breaking of the Fast” and marks the end of the holy month of Ramadan, a month long spiritual journey of fasting and giving to those in need. It is the first of two Eid festivals during the year. Traditionally on Eid, families and friends pray special Eid prayers at mosque in the morning, visit one another, exchange presents, and celebrate with meals and other festivities with loved ones.
Throughout Ramadan and into Eid, Muslims Canadians have been providing charity to those in need. Eid al-Fitr is an opportunity to recognize how Muslim Canadians continue to shape our country for the better, and to celebrate the diversity that makes us who we are. Eid Mubarak!
