April 14 marks Vaisakhi - the harvest festival that includes the start of the harvest season in Punjab and the founding of the Khalsa by Guru Gobind Singh in 1699. Usually, Vaisakhi is celebrated by gathering at local Gurdwaras to pray and read from the sacred scripture and with grand parades through the streets.
Canada has a large and vibrant Sikh population. For all Canadians, Vaisakhi is a time to celebrate the important contributions that Canadians of Sikh faith make to our country, and to learn about Sikhism’s rich traditions and teachings of equality, unity, selfless service, and social justice.
Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa, Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh.
