On January 27th, we commemorate International Holocaust Remembrance Day.
It is a time to remember and pay tribute to the more than six million Jews who were systematically persecuted and murdered by the Nazis during the Holocaust, and the millions of other victims of Nazi atrocities. The United Nations General Assembly designated January 27th as International Holocaust Remembrance Day because it’s the anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau by allied forces from Nazi Germany.
Our government is committed to supporting the Jewish community and tackling the growing rise in antisemitism through amendments to the Criminal Code that prohibit denying or downplaying the Holocaust in Canada.
