Emergency Preparedness Week 2022
May 1, 2022

Today marks the start of Emergency Preparedness Week 2022! This year’s theme is #BeReadyAnything - a reminder to every Canadian on the importance of emergency preparedness.

Emergency Preparedness Week is in its 27th year and this year, runs from May 1 to 7. Each day has a different focus ranging from what to include in your emergency kit to what to do during floods or fires to recognizing our incredible first responders.

As the first ever standalone Minister of Emergency Preparedness, much of Minister Blair’s mandate focuses on building resiliency and ensuring Canadians are prepared for future emergencies of all kinds, whether they be floods, fires, droughts, cyber-attacks, and more.

This year, Canadians have a chance to win an emergency preparedness kit by joining Public Safety’s online social media challenge. All you have to do is share a tip (message, photo, or video) about how you’re helping you and your family better prepare for an emergency. Make sure to use the hashtag #ReadyforAnything.

It can be as simple as making an emergency kit with items found around your home, creating a family emergency plan, or becoming more informed about the hazards in your area. Visit getprepared.ca for more ideas.

Over the past year, Canadians have witnessed historic amounts of extreme weather, leading to flooding, wildfires, heatwaves and winter storms that have ravaged entire communities. The reality is that climate change means severe weather events are occurring more often and are likely to increase in scale, frequency, and unpredictability. These events continue to disrupt lives, cause damage to critical infrastructure, and impact our supply chains.

Below are some tips for how can you prepare for emergencies:
