This year’s Earth Day theme is Invest in Our Planet. Let today serve as a reminder of our collective responsibility to do our part and leave a cleaner and healthier planet for future generations.

From the rugged coasts of Newfoundland to the iconic boreal forest, the Rockies, and everywhere in between, as Canadians, we are lucky to have so much nature right in our backyards – gifts that come with a responsibility to protect them.

Since 2015, our government has protected historic amounts of our lands, waters, and oceans; we have planted 30 million trees across the country with spring planting season now underway again; and we have taken important steps to ban harmful single-use plastics.

We know there is more to do, and we will continue to work with Canadians and Indigenous Peoples across the country to protect more nature and keep fighting climate change. Because when we protect our planet, everyone benefits. We deliver clean air, we create middle class jobs, and we ensure our children and grandchildren can inherit the natural landscapes we are so proud of as Canadians.
