Easter is one of the most important holidays for Christian communities in Canada and around the world as it commemorates the Resurrection of Jesus Christ on the third day after his Crucifixion.
In the Christian calendar, Easter follows Lent, the period of 40 days (not counting Sundays) before Easter. Lent is traditionally observed by acts of penance, fasting, and charity. Many Christians worldwide celebrate Easter with special church services, music, candlelight, flowers, and the ringing of church bells.
In addition to Easter’s religious significance, people also take part in the tradition of the Easter Bunny where Easter eggs are hidden and hunted in gardens.
While this will be the third Easter that we are required to celebrate a little differently, and restrictions in provinces are being lifted, it’s still important that we all continue to gather safely.
To all those celebrating in Fleetwood—Port Kells, I wish you a happy Easter!
