Today at sundown, Ramadan is set to begin. The Muslim community in Fleetwood--Port Kells, and Muslim Canadians across the country, are preparing to celebrate this special month.
Ramadan is the holiest month in the Islamic calendar where the Quran was first revealed to the Prophet Mohammed (S.A.W.). The holy month begins and ends with the appearance of the new moon. During this month, Muslims in Canada and across the world observe Ramadan by fasting from dawn till dusk, ending the day with iftar, commonly known as breaking the fast with family and friends.
A time of charity and spiritual contemplation, Ramadan reminds us to put the needs of others before our own and to practice those values in our daily lives. Ramadan is a time of togetherness and this year we will continue to observe through online programs and virtual iftars.
Let us take the time to recognize, and show gratitude for, the invaluable contributions Muslim Canadians make each day to our country.
Ramadan Mubarak!
