April 1 easing of border measures
April 1, 2022

A reminder that as of April 1, 2022, Canada is removing the pre-entry test requirement for fully vaccinated travellers. As vaccination levels and healthcare system capacity improve, our government will continue to consider further easing of measures at the borders—and when to lift or adjust those measures—to keep people in Canada safe.

Travellers arriving to Canada from any country, who qualify as fully vaccinated, may need to take a COVID-19 molecular test on arrival if selected for mandatory random testing. Travellers selected for mandatory random testing are not required to quarantine while awaiting their test result.

Unless otherwise exempt, all travellers eligible to enter Canada who do not qualify as fully vaccinated will continue to be tested with COVID-19 molecular tests on arrival and on Day 8, while they quarantine for 14 days.

Travelers on cruise ships will now only need to show proof of a negative rapid antigen test no more than 1 day before departure. They will not require a test before getting off the cruise ship.

The safety and security of Canadians remains the highest priority, and the federal government will continue making decisions based on science and adjusting advice and public health measures based on the evolution of the virus.

For more details on the easing of border measures can be found in today’s news release.
