Changes to testing requirements for travellers entering Canada
March 17, 2022

Today, the federal government announced that on April 1, 2022, Canada will remove the pre-entry test requirement for fully vaccinated travellers. As vaccination levels and healthcare system capacity improve, the Government of Canada will continue to consider further easing of measures at the borders—and when to lift or adjust those measures—to keep people in Canada safe.

The Government of Canada has always said that as the COVID-19 situation changes, so will our response. That is why we announced the gradual easing of travel measures:

These new measures are part of Canada’s gradual approach to ease travel measures and re-open Canada to the world, which will boost local tourism and our economy.

From the beginning of the pandemic, we have worked tirelessly to keep Canadians safe. The safety and security of Canadians continues to be our highest priority, and we will continue to adjust our response as necessary to ensure a safe and gradual re-opening.

This adjustment to Canada’s border measures is made possible by a number of factors, including Canada’s high vaccination rate, the increasing availability and use of rapid tests to detect infection, decreasing hospitalizations and growing domestic availability of treatments for COVID-19.

For more details on the easing of border measures can be found in today’s news release.
