February 28 easing of border measures
February 25, 2022

As Ministers Alghabra, Mendicino, LeBlanc, Duclos and Boissonnault recently announced, a series of adjustments will be made to ease the current COVID-19 border measures. These changes are possible as a result of the actions of tens of millions of Canadians across the country who followed public health measures, including getting vaccinated.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, our government’s focus is protecting the health and safety of Canadians by following the latest science. The most recent data indicates that the Omicron wave has passed its peak in Canada, allowing us to lighten COVID-19 border measures and move towards a more long-term approach to managing COVID-19.

This transition, including today’s announcements, is possible because of our high vaccination rates and the increasing availability of rapid tests. As we have said all along, Canada’s border measures will remain flexible and adaptable, guided by science and prudence.
