Additional investments in the second round of the Rapid Housing Initiative
January 21, 2022

Everyone deserves a safe and affordable place to call home.

Today, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, alongside Minister of Housing and Diversity and Inclusion Ahmed Hussen, announced that there will now be more than 10,000 new, affordable rapid housing units built in total thanks to additional investments in the second round of the Rapid Housing Initiative. These units will help support Canada’s most vulnerable, far exceeding initial targets. At least a third of the housing will support women and children, and over 40% of the total housing will be created to help support First Nations, Inuit, and Metis peoples.

The $2.5 billion Rapid Housing Initiative is designed to help people who are at risk of or experiencing homelessness find a safe and affordable place to call home.

Thanks to the hard work and collaboration of partners in provincial, territorial, municipal governments and Indigenous governing bodies, our government is quickly creating more homes across the country for people in severe housing need.

The Rapid Housing Initiative will help create 1177 safe and affordable homes in British Columbia for those who need it most. This is the National Housing Strategy at work.
