Today marks the first Canada Child Benefit (CCB) payment of 2022. In 2016, our government introduced the CCB because we understood that raising children can get expensive. Since it has come into action, the CCB has helped raise over 400,000 children out of poverty.
The best way to grow our economy and make life more affordable for Canadians is by supporting them through COVID-19 and providing families with the support they need. With the cost of living increasing around the world, Canadian families need a real plan to make life more affordable.
Today, families across the country will be receiving their first Canada Child Benefit payment of 2022. Our Liberal government’s plan puts more money in the pockets of 9 out of 10 families with the Canada Child Benefit, and throughout the pandemic, we provided even more support by temporarily boosting Canada Child Benefit payments with the Young Child Supplement, providing up to an additional $1,200 per child under six.
The rising cost of living is making it harder for Canadians to put food on the table and buy necessities. That’s why we have a plan to make life more affordable for all Canadians. From $10 a day child care to supports for small businesses, the Government of Canada will continue to focus on making sure Canadians get the support they need, so no one gets left behind.
Since day one we have focused on fairness and affordability for Canadians – we have done this by cutting taxes for the middle class, raising them on the wealthiest, and creating the Canada Child Benefit to help lift hundreds of thousands of children out of poverty.
