Launch of applications for the expanded Canada Worker Lockdown Benefit
January 2, 2022

Today, Minister of National Revenue, the Honourable Diane Lebouthillier, announced that the expanded access to CWLB is now in effect and Canadians in designated regions affected by lockdowns or qualifying capacity restrictions can apply for the benefit apply for the benefit.

From the outset of the pandemic, our government understood that the best economic policy is finishing the fight against COVID-19. This is especially true as we brace ourselves for the rising wave of the Omicron variant.

That’s why the federal government is temporarily expanding eligibility for key support programs to ensure Canadians are protected, and workers and businesses get the help they need to sustain them through new and necessary public health restrictions.

The new regulations will expand the Local Lockdown Program and expand the Canada Worker Lockdown Benefit to ensure that, in areas with new capacity restrictions, workers and businesses are covered by our federal support measures.

These updated regulations will apply from December 19, 2021, to February 12, 2022, during which time it is expected that public health authorities will continue to implement “circuit-breaker” restrictions that limit the spread of the Omicron variant across Canada.

Our government will continue to help Canadians through the pandemic and ensure Canada’s economic recovery leaves no one behind.
