Updates from the House, Bill C-2

Bill C-2: An Act to provide further support in response to COVID-19 enacts personal income support as announced by the Prime Minister and Deputy Prime Minister on October 21, 2021.
Below are some key aspects of the bill:
The government will move away from the broad-based COVID-19 business support programs to a more targeted approach:
- COVID-19 Business Support
- The Tourism and Hospitality Recovery Program would assist eligible organizations with a subsidy of up to 75%
- The Hardest-Hit Business Recovery Program would aid eligible organizations with a subsidy of up to 50%
- The Local Lockdown Program would provide organizations that face temporary local lockdowns with a subsidy of up to 75%
- Canada Worker Lockdown Benefit
- A new-targeted benefit, providing income support to workers whose employment is interrupted by government-imposed public health lockdowns
- The legislation would provide a benefit rate of $300 per week, accessible for the entire duration of a lockdown order (up until May 7, 2022)
- Canada Recovery Benefits Act
- Amendments to the Canada Recovery Benefits Act would extend the Canada Recovery Sickness Benefit (CSRB) and Canada Recovery Caregiving Benefit (CRCB) from November 20, 2021 to May 7, 2022
- Leave Related to COVID-19
- Temporarily reinstate the unpaid leave related to COVID-19, extending its availability until May 7, 2022
