Earlier this week, Minister of Environment and Climate Change, the Honourable Steven Guilbeault, launched a public consultation to develop Canada’s first National Adaptation Strategy, a whole-of-society blueprint for coordinated action across the country to ensure communities and Canadians are prepared for the impacts of climate change.
Building a strong and healthy future for Canadians means building homes, infrastructure, and an economy that are ready for the realities of climate change. Across the country, Canadians have experienced extreme heat waves, had their homes destroyed by wildfires and floods, and seen their crops devastated by drought. It is clear that adapting to the impacts of a changing climate will protect our communities, build a resilient economy, and ensure our children have a safe place to grow and live.
As Canada experiences an increase in heat waves, wildfires, and flooding it is clear the climate crisis is more urgent than ever. We need to do our part to fight climate change so that we can leave the next generation with clean air, clean water, and a livable planet.
The time is now to ensure communities and Canadians are prepared for the impacts of climate change. From building homes that can withstand higher temperatures to embracing the power of nature to protect our communities from flooding, we’re making sure Canadians have their say as we build a clean economy that works for everyone.
