Helping businesses and saving jobs with the Canada Emergency Wage Subsidy
December 3, 2020

On Monday, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, announced the next step in our plan to support Canadians through the pandemic and rebuild our economy.

Small businesses have been working hard throughout the pandemic to keep their doors open and employees on the payroll. To help businesses through this challenging time and to save jobs,  we’re extending the Canada Emergency Wage Subsidy to June 2021, and have proposed to  increase the maximum subsidy rate back to 75%.

Since the start of the pandemic, our investments in workers and businesses have helped stabilize the economy through this crisis. But while 80% of the jobs lost at the start of the pandemic have been recouped, the coming months will continue to be difficult for Canadian businesses and their employees. That’s why we will continue to support people and businesses through the crisis, as long as it lasts, doing whatever it takes.
